The return of the Krampus

January 21, 2023 - January 22, 2023

Free
Krampus

They’re back!

After being chased from the Forest last winter, these foul Alpine fiends have returned! Is revenge on their minds?

Visit Sherwood Forest on Saturday and learn more about this ancient European folk creature, which has made Christmas on the continent an altogether spookier affair than here in dear old Blighty!

As night falls, the Krampus will begin to take over the woodland.  To aid your escape, bring a torch to light the way in a lantern parade from the Major Oak back to the Visitor Centre.

Then on Sunday, join the traditional wassailing ceremony, proclaiming good health for the year ahead for Sherwood Forest’s wildlife and ancient oak trees, which amount to one of Europe’s largest and most important collections of centuries-old oaks.

It’s also when we send the Krampus packing and fleeing for their wintry mountain lairs.

This is a free event. Parking costs just £5 per vehicle per day for non-RSPB members, and helps the RSPB to carry out its vital conservation work, but there is no admission charge to enter the reserve.
