The Newark and District Primary Schools’ Sports Association will host the a football tournament for year 3 and 4 girls at Chuter Ede Primary School Balderton. The tournament will see the reinauguration of the Mumby Shield which which was a boys football trophy first played for in 1906. Newark’s most famous footballer Willie Hall won the trophy in 1924 and 1925 with Lovers Lane School when he captained the team. Willie Hall went on to play for Notts County, Tottenham Hotspur and England. Whilst not the oldest school sports trophy in the world it is certainly one of the oldest the first being the Airdrie Schools Cup in Scotland, dating back to 1886.
