The centre is set among a rich history of mining communities, from which many of their staff still reside. Even a beloved Survivor was placed with a pit deputy and his family after fleeing Germany and arriving on the Kindertransport.
Dr David Amos is offering his fascinating and illustrated talk about the 2019 Nottingham Trent University project and exhibition, ‘Dealing with the Past: Coal, Community and Change 1965-2015’. As well as bringing communities together and gathering memories of former coal miners and their families for future generations, the project looked at wider social aspects of coal mining and culture.
Incorporated into the talk will be music from Borderland Folk and Misk Hills Mountain Rambler who will each perform a traditional mining song.
Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum will be showing a number of artefacts that have been donated from local ex-miners and their families.
