Heritage Open Days: Ironworks to Artworks

Come and visit the Newark’s Georgian Town Hall, one of the town’s most beautiful buildings where you can learn about two 19th century innovative sons of Newark whose lives can be traced within these walls.
The Spotlight Gallery will host the story of ‘Astounding Inventions’ created by William Newzam Nicholson, Engineer, Mayor, MP for Newark and by his youngest son, William Newzam Prior Nicholson, artist, and Olympic gold medal winner for graphic art!
Each day there will be presentations to show how their innovative ideas reached all corners of the world, some of which continue to have influence today.
There will be activities for children including a trail to follow the Nicholson story around the town and opportunities to bring to life the artistic style of the Beggarstaffs, the creative duo of William N.P. Nicholson and his brother-in-law, James Pryde.
