Holocaust Survivor Ruth Schweining will be offering her inspiring testimony on Sunday 28th May. Ruth was born in Breslau in 1935. Due to increasing pressure her parents decided to emigrate to Austria hoping to find safety for the family. Kristallnacht changed their lives and Ruth’s father was arrested and taken to Dachau. Ruth tells of her emotive journey on the Kindertransport, arriving at Harwich in February 1939, alone in a strange country. Ruth explains how in adult life her art has reflected her parent’s lives and how using glass symbolises the fragility and shattering of life.
After Ruth’s testimony we will be showing a short film recently made about her art.
