International Women’s Day

Join a celebration of International Women’s Day at Sherwood Forest with a focus on the role of women in the forest’s past, present and future.

Dr Louise Gentle from Nottingham Trent University will be here for a discussion and Q&A with Chloe Ryder, Site Manager for Sherwood Forest and Budby South Forest, about their work in conservation.

There’s a chance to get hands on with the outdoors team and be part of a volunteer work group throughout the day too.

Historian and writer Sharon Bennett-Connolly, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and expert on the Medieval Age, will also be giving a fascinating insight into England’s influential women at the time of the Magna Carta.

The fabulous Sherwood Outlaws will be here too, offering storytelling, have-a-go archery and a weapons display, as well as Lady Marian’s guided tour of ancient Sherwood Forest.

11.30am: Women in Conservation discussion and Q&A with Dr Louise Gentle, leader of the Conservation provision at Nottingham Trent University School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences and Chloe Ryder, Site Manager of Sherwood Forest and Budby South Forest.

12.45pm: Historian Sharon Bennett-Connolly – Women and Magna Carta

1.30pm: Guided tour of ancient Sherwood Forest with Lady Marian of The Sherwood Outlaws (Booking required. Tickets £5.50 /£4.50 RSPB members)

3pm: Medieval weapons display at the Major Oak by the fearsome female assassin Chlorinda LaMort of The Sherwood Outlaws.
