Meet The Holocaust Survivor: Ruth Schwiening, Kindertransport Child and Contemporary Artist

July 23 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

£5 – £10.00

How is testimony interpreted into contemporary art?

Ruth is a big personality and an emotional artist who will be talking about how her paintings and ceramics tell a story of loss, love and redemption. The event will begin with a short film, ‘Ruth’s Art’ prior to Ruth offering in person testimony, which will cover her journey to England on the Kindertransport and her life thereafter. Ruth despicts the lives of her parents through her art by the medium of glass, this offering the same fragility as life.

Along with her art, Ruth uses her creativity to also write short stories, one of these being ‘The Girl and The Butterfly’, a story of separation and loss. This has been interpreted into a short ballet by local dance school, Spotlight Studios.

Friend of the museum and local songwriter, Bill Varnam, will join us to perform, ‘ Ruth’s Song’, written after meeting Ruth and being inspired by her testimony.

There will also be an opportunity to discuss Ruth’s art and testimony and ask her any questions.
