Join St Mary Magdalene Church as they celebrate their Patronal Festival.
The parish church is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene, and it’s traditional for churches to celebrate the festival of their patron saint, and in Spain, Italy and other countries the patronal festival is the centrepiece of major local celebrations, including special markets, music and dancing. St Mary Magdalene’s day is July 22, a Monday, so it will be celebrated instead on the July 20-21 weekend, including a beautiful service of Choral Evensong in the evening, sung by the choir. The Patronal Festival also traditionally includes the rare opportunity to climb the tower and get an amazing view of Newark, and this year will also include a short pilgrimage from Balderton, partly along the disused railway track, taking in several historic places on the way.
