Do you have a fur baby? Don’t want to leave them whilst you go on holiday? Well, why not take them with you? Newark & Sherwood is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday with your furry companion, with a large variety of attractions, open spaces and accommodation for you to choose from:

Attractions

Sherwood Forest

Robin HoodSherwood Forest is a perfect place to enjoy a walk amongst beautiful ancient oaks with your furry friend. Explore the forest and discover the home of Robin Hood with your dog. Enjoy the huge leave piles and the thousands of tasty sticks! Your dog can go anywhere with you and there are plenty of water bowels dotted around. Dogs do have to be kept on their lead around the visitor centre and closely supervised around the forest.

Extra points are awarded if you dress your dog in full costume when visiting Sherwood Forest, just like this adorable golden retriever, Rupert!

Sherwood Pines

Run by Forestry England, Sherwood Pines is just down the road from the RSPB Sherwood Visitor Centre and is another scenic area for you to walk your dog. They also have plenty of trails you can wonder along for all different abilities. There is also Go Ape! and cycling trails for those humans who want a bit of an adrenaline rush too.

Thoresby Park

Dogs, and their responsible human friends, are welcome at Thoresby Park, as they believe their grounds are to be enjoyed by all! Dogs do have to be kept on a lead but they are free to wander along the trails and around the groups to their, and their owners, delight.

dog walkingRufford Abbey Country Park

Whilst we’re not sure the Cistercian Monks would have enjoyed dogs at Rufford Abbey, in the 21st century they are welcomed with open arms! Dogs do have to be kept on a lead but can explore the grounds. Rufford Abbey boasts over 150 acres of tranquil woodland, meadow and gardens as well as various trails and the beautiful Rufford Lake. You can grab a bite to eat and a cup of something warm (or cool) at the Coach House and enjoy them with your four-legged friend in their large external courtyard area, which is covered for any inclement weather! Perfect!

Town Centres

Of course, whilst dogs can’t go into shops they can still wonder around our fantastic town centres (plus if you have a partner/friend, they can hold the dog(s) whilst you go in for a peruse). We particularly recommend Newark as the stunning Market Place is filled with gorgeous cafes and restaurants around the square, all with outdoor seating so you can enjoy a well-deserved break with your dog.

Clumber Park

Just a short hop, skip and a jump from Newark, Clumber park is the perfect place to spend a few hours exploring with your furry friend. Dogs are welcome in all outdoor areas of the park and they even have a dedicated indoor space where your furry friend can relax after their day exploring. Due to the extensive wildlife on their amazing 3,800 acres, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.

Belton House

Belton House, run by the National Trust, is a beautiful Stuart era country house with 1,300 acres of parkland to explore. They have a variety of woodland, hills and streams for you to wander around with your four-legged companion. Dogs are welcome in the courtyard areas but not in the house, the gardens and adventure playground and must be kept on a lead at all times.

Parks & Nature Reserves

Of course, one of Newark & Sherwood’s many parks and nature reserves are perfect places to take your fluffy companion on a long walk around our beautiful country side.
